Deakins Honored with BSC Award for Blade Runner 2049

The cinematographer completes his sweep of major awards for his work in the atmospheric 2017 science-fiction tale.

Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC has been presented with the British Society of Cinematographers Award for best cinematography in a 2017 theatrical release.

The cinematographer previously earned the Academy, ASC and BAFTA awards (among other honors) for his cinematography in director Denis Villeneuve’s atmospheric sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic shot by Jordan Cronenweth, ASC and directed by Ridley Scott.


This is the cinematographer’s fifth BSC Award win (in nine nominations), while it was his first Oscar win (14 nominations), his fourth trophy from the ASC (14 nominations) and his fourth BAFTA win (nine nominations).


The other BSC Award nominees for theatrical release were Bruno Delbonnel, ASC, AFC for Darkest Hour; Dan Laustsen, ASC, DFF for The Shape of Water; and Ben Davis, BSC for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
