John Lindley, ASC Elected President of ICG Local 600

On March 15, John Lindley, ASC was elected to lead the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600, as president of the union. He was previously second national vice president of the guild.

A guild member for 32 years, Lindley will serve out the remainder of the term left by Lewis Rothenberg, who vacated the office in February due to a dispute over whether he met residency requirements mandated by Local 600’s constitution and bylaws. He was eight months into a three-year term.
As Lindley stated via Local 600’s press release, “I am honored to be elected by the National Executive Board to serve the members of Local 600 as National President at this challenging time of change in the industry and our country. Our leadership team will now continue the important work of our members and our union.”
A native of New York, Lindley’s extensive credits as a cinematographer include such features as, Field of Dreams, You’ve Got Mail, Pleasantville, Sleeping with the Enemy, The Core and St. Vincent, as well as TV series including Castle Rock, Manhattan, (for which he earned an ASC Award) and Snowfall.
Interim ICG President Dejan Georgevich, ASC will resume his status as vice president, while veteran camera assistant Baird Steptoe Sr. has been elected as second national vice president to fill Lindley’ previous position.
