New ASC member James Hawkinson is a Los Angeles native known for creating elegant and influential images within television, features, music videos, commercials and more. He photographed all four seasons of the Amazon Prime series The Man in the High Castle, which earned him an Emmy win and additional nomination as well as an ASC Award nomination. Hawkinson’s other television credits include all three seasons of the NBC series Hannibal; the pilot and first season of NBC’s Community; the pilot and first season of Fox’s Arrested Development; and the pilot for NBC’s The Enemy Within. His work on Aphex Twin’s “Windowlicker” music video has been included in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection. In 2001, he received an MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Cinematography for Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On,” and, in 2004, was nominated for Beyoncé’s “Naughty Girl.”
Hawkinson’s other notable music video work includes Missy Elliot’s “Lose Control”; Pink’s “Don’t Let Me Get Me”; No Doubt’s “Hey Baby”; 3 Doors Down’s “Kryptonite”; Feist’s “Feel It All”; Sugarland’s “Tonight”; Stephen Tyler’s “Feels So Good”; and Fun’s “We Are Young,” which currently has over 910 million views on YouTube.
His feature credits include the supernatural thriller The Unborn and the 2007 remake of The Hitcher.
